This week's activity was short and sweet (and not altogether too complex). Last Christmas, the children made Christmas cards for a local extended care unit, and I thought it might be a nice idea for the children to do the same for Valentine’s Day, making valentines for the same unit.
Preparatory Work
The night before, I cut out heart chains as shown in this website:

The Activity
I handed out the hearts as well as folded pieces of construction paper so the children had a choice between hearts or cards or, if they had time, both (some did both). I also gave out stickers and wrote out “Happy Valentine’s Day” for the kids to copy on their cards. This took quite a bit of time, actually, considering I didn't do any talking about Valentine’s Day.
Supplies
- scissors
- stickers
- construction paper
- markers, pencil crayons, etc.
- a little sprinkle of imagination :)
I think it was nice for everyone to have the chance to be creative. I’m sure our little creations brought smiles to the people who received them.
