Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire,
which parted and came to rest on each one of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit

[Lyse] started with the Pentecost story from The Beginners Bible book. The discussion following was similar to last year’s at Pentecost except that this year I talked about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Given the kids’ young age and time constraints, I didn’t go into detail about each gift. I said that knowledge, understanding, counsel and wisdom were about knowing God’s will, and the things He wants you to do that are best for your life; piety, wonder and awe and fortitude give us what we need to do God’s will. |

Instructions
This week's activity comes from: www.catholic-inspired.com. Prior to the children's liturgy, I cut out the doves, tongues of fire and rays of light, which ended up taking a while because there are so many flames. I also cut 8.5x11 pieces of paper in half, each half acting as a background for the cut-outs.
The kids first arranged and glued down the tips of the 7 ‘rays of light’ to the bottom back of the dove. This was the hardest part as the children were dealing with small strips of paper that had to fit on a small space. They then glued the dove/rays to the background. Finally, the children glued down the tongues of fire, in no particular order. It’s okay if the rays of light go out past the background and if the flames don’t exactly match up with each ray. There was some time to colour the craft at the end but this step could be eliminated if needed.
Reflections
Just a quick note to finish off: In the future, I would recommend covering the background with glue first so the dove/rays can just be pressed onto it. If you end up finishing the main part of the project early, simply have the children colour in each flame, or even the background cutout. Otherwise I think the finished product turned out pretty well, and the kids enjoyed the activity.
